Position Description

Morningside College is now accepting applications for the following position in Residence Life and Student Services.  This position is a full-time 12 month, live-in position, which coordinates the day-to-day essential functions of residence halls or apartment buildings. This position also advises student government, coordinates residence life student development, staff training, and student wellness programs. Has on call responsibilities on a rotation basis, which involves evening and weekend work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Area Coordinator

  • Participate in the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of paraprofessional and student employees
  • Direct weekly staff meetings with Head Residents and Resident Assistants
  • Participate in an on-call duty rotation, providing 24-hour crisis management services as needed. Confront policy violations when incidents arise
  • Assist with room registration and placement assignments
  • Perform general residence life administrative duties
  • Assist in the creation, planning & execution of staff training weeks and educational/training in services
  • Assist in the management of departmental budgets.
  • Meet regularly with custodians and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of the assigned residential area.

Morningside Student Government Adviser

  • Advise Morningside Student Government
  • Manage budgets and administer event contracts and riders
  • Monitor and evaluate student government events, coordinate chaperones for student government events
  • Provide feedback, direction and College perspective on student government agendas and meetings
  • Participate in the recruitment, training, and oversight of student government executives and senators, may include attendance at a student government retreat and or conference
  • Act as a liaison between student government and the College

Staff Selection and Training

  • Direct, coordinate, and market the annual Residence Life staff recruitment and selection process
  • Assist with the recruitment and selection of Residence Life staff outside of the annual recruitment process
  • Design a comprehensive Residence Life training schedule
  • Coordinate staff training and development activities
  • Assess training efforts each semester

Development and Wellness Program

  • Assist with the development of H.R. and R.A. educational programs
  • Develop and facilitate campus-wide educational programs (relationships, alcohol use, personal wellness, etc.).
  • Develop campus-wide wellness and development program plan.
  • Collaborate with campus offices and departments to provide a comprehensive calendar of Wellness events


  • Serve as a resource for R.A. and campus programming
  • Make referrals, which will provide aid to students in obtaining assistance from other offices.
  • Interact with students as a resource person and advisor.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related counseling/advising duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
  • Experience in Residence Life, Campus Leadership and/or Student Activities
  • Effective communication and human relation skills
  • Hold a valid US driver’s license
  • Must be able to live on-campus
