Position Description

Located in the bucolic Susquehanna Valley, Elizabethtown College seeks applicants for the position of Assistant/Associate Director of Student Activities.  Elizabethtown College has a rich history rooted in peacemaking, service learning, social justice, sustainability, wellbeing, and is proud of our ability to seamlessly nurture student acdemic interests from both the liberal arts and professional programs.  We recently announced a 32% tuition reduction for fall 2019 in an effort to be transparent with families about the true cost of a college education and we are thrilled to be opening our brand new Bowers Center for Sport, Fitness, and Wellbeing this coming August.

Position Title:                Assistant/Associate Director of Student Activities

Department:                   Student Activities

Reports to:                     Director of the Bowers Center for Sport, Fitness,and Wellbeing

Work Hours:                  Monday – Friday, Varies (37.5 hours per week).

Status:                            Full-Time, 12- month 

FLSA Classification:      Non-Exempt



The primary purpose of this position is the strategic planning and development of extra-curricularand co-curricularprogramming, working collaboratively with students, faculty and educators to implement events and activities that encourages student involvement and engagement, provide enriching experiences, and enhance students overall learning and development. 


Plan, implement, and coordinate campus events/activities and support other functions of the Office of Student Activities and in the Bowers Center
Operates and has oversight of the Office of Student Activities, Intramurals, Hub, and the Etown Campus Pub including budget development, procurement, marketing and logistics.

  • Advise Student Senate and assist them with budget management, professional development, conecting with all parts of the College, and other facets at the discretion of the Vice President for Student Life)
  • Recruit, train, and supervise all student staff in the Office of Student Activities (OSA), Hub, Bowers Center, Intramurals, and Campus Pub
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive leadership and competency training program for Student Activities/Hub/Intramurals/Bowers Center/Campus Pubstudent staff members 
  • Manages the operating budgets of OSA, Intramurals, Campus Pub (and others at the discretion of the Director of the Bowers Center) and allocates resources fairly to support multiple program priorities
  • Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for all that visit the Bowers Center and the BSC
  • Oversee the recordkeeping and tracking of student clubs/organizations and their members to ensure current and archival accuracy
  • Provides support, management, advising, coaching, leadership development and mentorship for all student clubs/organizations and Student Senate
  • Oversee the operation and support for Etown Jays, our student engagement app platform
  • Manage the student organization and advisor manuals to ensure compliance with college policies and procedures as well as current trends in the field of higher education.
  • Expands opportunities for co-curricular and curricular learning offered through OSA for students through special events, workshops, classes, certificate programs, etc.
  • Develop emergency management policies and protocol for the BSC 
  • Complete progress, fiscal and year-end program reports as requested; including assessment of services and any learning outcomes achieved through contact with this functional area
  • Developand assess annual program goalsusing appropriate methodological measurements
  • Oversee the websites, department social media accounts, networking pages, and other advertising elements of the offices in the position’s portfolio
  • Assess program learning outcomes and their impact on persistence, student leadership development, and student satisfaction
  • Assist in the development and supervision of policy and procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of all participants; implement risk management procedures and training for Intramurals programs
  • Contribute to the development, marketing, and facilitation of growth in recreational and well-being offerings to the campus community
  • Work actively toward supporting the College Strategic plan and serve on campus-wide committees as assigned by the Director of the Bowers Center
  • Review vendor contracts and ensure all proper documentation is in place prior to events
  • Develop and implement risk management policy/procedure manuals and guidelines related to Student Activities, Campus Pub, Intramurals, Student Senate
  • Provide significant and high-quality opportunities in a variety of indoor and outdoor intramural activities to satisfy the diverse needs of all students
  • Develop and maintain ImLeagues web site for online registration of events, leagues and program information; ensure schedules are accurately posted in a timely manner, communicated to all participants, and accommodated when necessary
  • Demonstrate an active commitment to diversity
  • Comply with all College policies and federal/commonwealth regulations (Title IX, VAWA, etc.)
  • Serve as a member of theBackupAdministrator On Call rotation
  • Perform other duties as assigned



Conduct all responsibilities in a safe manner according to regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.)



This position directly supervises student assistants.  This position is required to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Elizabethtown College’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, directing, rewarding, and disciplining individuals; appraising individual performance; and resolving complaints.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s with 4-6 years of related experience required. Master’s degree in higher education/student affairs administration, recreation, or related field is preferred.


Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations

A valid driver’s license for business travel purposes is preferred (individual must have a US driver’s license for at least three years; a motor vehicle record check will be run and the incumbent must pass the College’s MVR rating system).
Ability and willingness to become a certified trainer to facilitate the TIPs for the University program, used in training student bartenders
