Position Description

SUMMARY:

The Assistant Community Director, under general supervision, is a live-in professional staff member that collaborates to cultivate an environment conducive to the active pursuit of student academic, personal and professional success. Assists with training, development, and supervision of staff. Contributes to community building, advising, administrative processes, and facilities management.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in supervision and development of Resident Assistants and Desk Attendants.
  • Participates on departmental committees for the advancement of departmental initiatives such as staff selection and training; conducts trainings for student staff as directed by supervisors.
  • Directs community development, to include establishing goals and objectives for the residence hall community, advising Hall Council, counseling students regarding personal, academic, and social concerns.
  • Contributes to the development and assessment of strategic programming.
  • Works in collaboration with Community Director to oversee programming budget.
  • Participates in a duty rotation as a professional staff member responding to emergencies outside of traditional office hours.
  • Oversees crisis response and ensures accurate and timely completion of incident reports.
  • Serve as essential personnel for departmental and university emergencies
  • Addresses as necessary or as directed by Supervisors, student behavior, judicial matters, and policy enforcement.
  • Supports facilities oversight to include maintenance, cleaning, safety, security, and prescribed emergency drills.
  • Under the supervision of a Community Director, coordinates move processes, occupancy management, and end of semester closing processes and assignment of charges for damages.
  • Establish a student culture where diversity is encouraged and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership

Located in Commerce, Texas we are a small rural college town offering lots of free community celebrations and events. A a short one hour drive from campus to downtown Dallas/ Fort Worth/ Arlington and within driving distance to Oklahoma City, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. Texas A&M- Commerce is a public research university with an enrollment of over 12,000 students. We are the second-largest institution in the Texas A&M University System with an on-campus housing population over 2600 residents.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree and minimum of one (1) year of work experience related to Student Affairs. Master’s Degree  is equivalent to one (1) year of experience.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Related experience in administration of residence hall operations, and student development programming, including related supervisory experience.
