Position Description

Summary: The Assistant Dean for Students, School of Law, acting in coordination with the Executive Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Dean, focuses on the academic, intellectual, psychological, and personal aspects of student life at the law school.

 

The Assistant Dean for Students, School of Law, provides strategic leadership for law school services that foster the success and wellbeing of students enrolled at the law school; counseling and guidance to students with personal needs/concerns to ensure connections with vital support services provided by the law school, University, community and local bar associations; oversight for extracurricular student organizations; oversight of student disciplinary processes.

 

Additional Job Description

Serves as primary contact in the Dean’s Office for law students with personal needs or concerns that impact their ability to succeed in law school
Provides primary oversight for the Student Bar Association and all extra-curricular student organizations (organizations with members who do not receive academic credit)
Serves as the Dean’s Office liaison for student matters dealing with the law school’s Code of Conduct
Oversees student welfare and collaborates to conduct programming and informational campaigns to highlight law school, University and bar association support for student wellbeing
Serves as primary contact for students needing academic accommodations and coordinates reasonable accommodations with the law school registrar’s office and faculty
Forges strong relationships and working partnerships with University support services, including but not limited to the University’s Counseling Center, Learning Assistance Center, Office of Wellbeing, Campus Recreation, Student Health, Title IX, Financial Aid.
Plans and executes JD Foundations Week (orientation), Family Day and participates in programs organized by other departments such as Admissions Open House, Career and Professional Development employer networking events and Alumni board and reunion events
Serves on University Incident Management Team (emergency management)
Serves as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator for law school


Job Requirements

Required Education, Knowledgem Skills, Abilities:

JD and at least 3 years in Higher Education.
Experience counseling students.
