Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is Seeking: Assistant Director, Career Development

The Assistant Director of Career Development provides career counseling and advice to all undergraduate and graduate students such that CLASS Initiatives, the Cooperative Education Program and the Arch are fully supported. The Assistant Director serves as the Center for Career and Professional Development liaison to the Lally School of Management and as the CCPD’s CLASS point person for Graduate Students. The Assistant Director provides career counseling, advocacy and advice to students through individual appointments, in-group settings and through intentional career and professional development programming. Additionally, the Assistant Director provides professional guidance to a variety of internal and external constituents and under the guidance of the Associate Director.

(CLASS)- Clustered Learning, Advocacy, and Support for Students is a comprehensive approach to the student experience at Rensselaer. Through ongoing support, guidance, and co-curricular activities, CLASS connects students to a network of faculty, staff, and other students, ensuring that they are part of a strong community of learners. As students strive to become the leaders of tomorrow, CLASS helps them develop the intellectual agility, multicultural sophistication, and global awareness that will enable them to change the world.
 


Job Requirements

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Requires the ability to collect data relative to placements in accordance with industry standards and prepare reports that illustrate the outcomes and strengths of programs
  • Ability to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Requires ability to work independently and with high a level of initiative 
  • Requires strong organizational skills. 
  • Requires excellent customer service skills
  • Requires ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives.
  • Requires ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Requires strong computer skills and knowledge.
  • Required demonstrated advanced skills in counseling, interpersonal communication and written communication focusing on a traditional college-age student population
  • Familiarity with general industry hiring cycles and processes

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (emphasis in student affairs, counseling, human resource management or related field) in Higher Education Administration, Education, Counseling or a related field
  • A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in fields related to student programming with a preference for experience in a career center or human resources role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree (emphasis in student affairs, counseling, human resource management or related field) in Higher Education Administration, Education, Counseling or a related field
  • Experience in human resources recruiting and/or human resources generalist knowledge in the private sector
  • Experience with the identification of relevant and desirable student learning and development outcomes, as related to experiential learning programs, and the establishment of measures aimed at accomplishing them
  • Project and event management experience
  • Experience in College Career Services or Recruiting in a university setting
