Position Description

Job Summary: 

The Assistant Director provides direction and leadership for the departments' community development and student leadership initiatives. The Assistant Director supervises 3-5 full time Residence Life Coordinators and one coordinator for Student Leadership and is indirectly responsible for 3-5 Graduate Residence Directors and 35-45 Resident Assistants.  

Job Responibilities: 

  • 40% Supervision: Serve as a member of the Department of Residential Life and Education Leadership team; Oversee the day to day operations of 3-5 residential communities in areas related to student and community development, student behavior, academic initiatives, personnel and administrative policies and procedures, and physical environment concerns; Directly supervises 3-5 full time Residence Life Coordinators and one coordinator for Student Leadership
  • 20% Student and Community Development: Oversee the design, development, and implementation of community development programming within all residential communities. Oversee the 1-1 interaction program for all resident assistants (Connections). Coordinate utilization of an attendance tracking system for programming and the analyzing of the appropriate data. Develop training models for all staff to properly implement community development initiatives. 
  • 20% Centralized Initiatives: Execution of departmental programming and initiatives centrally, including welcome week programming, sustainability initiatives, in-community Dance Marathon participation, Homecoming Week, and any other centrally organized initiatives. Development and implementation of a resident participation and incentive program.
  • 10% Student Leadership: Supervise the coordinator for student leadership. Provide high level guidance and vision for all Residential Life leadership training and initiatives including RHA, NRHH and Dance Marathon at LSU. Oversee departmental recognition initiatives. Serve as the primary liaison to assigned Residence Hall Association Vendors.
  • 10% Other Duties: Serve in on-call rotation at the Leadership Team level; Advise, chair or participate as a member of various inter- and intra-department committees on behalf of the department; Coordinate departmental projects as requested.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: 

Masters Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or related field. 4+ years of full time experience in Residential Life. (Graduate Assistantships count as a 1/2 year)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with advising student organizations
Experience with large scale programming

Special/Physical Qualifications:

Per PS 18 - Employee may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure.
