Position Description

The Assistant Director (AD) for Professional Development is a member of the office of Assessment and Professional Development (APD). The Assistant Director is responsible for leading the professional development programs and initiatives for Student Affairs (SA). The Assistant Director reports to the Executive Director of Assessment and Professional Development. Primary responsibilities include developing and coordinating Student Affairs professional development and training topics, curriculum development, and resource development. Efforts align with division priorities. Collaborate with internal and external partners to provide programs with a learner-centered design. Program responsibilities include annual division-wide meeting, book clubs, leadership series, careers in student affairs month, and self-directed learning programs. Opportunities will have goals and outcomes that align with the ACPA/NASPA Competencies and SA Strategic Initiatives; Aspirations for Student Learning, Well-being, Diversity and Inclusion, Living-Learning Programs, Facilities and Operational Efficiencies, and Leadership and Service. Opportunities should be made available across all classifications and include student employees.


Job Requirements

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in higher education/student affairs, organizational development, human resources, or related field.
3-5 years of experience working in a higher education setting
Experience in program and curriculum development
Experience with event planning and management
Experience in coordination and collaboration with internal and external partners
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of faculty/staff, student affairs professionals, and students

 Preferred qualifications:

Knowledge of learner-centered design
Knowledge of ACPA/NASPA competencies
Knowledge of designing events, programs, and educational resources that are inclusive and accessible
Demonstrated sensitivity to, as well as knowledge and understanding of groups historically underrepresented, and groups who may have experienced discrimination
Interest in developing and implementing curricula related to culturally diverse populations
Basic knowledge of assessment practices
Experience with instructional technology tools
