Presbyterian College seeks candidates for an Assistant Director of Residence Life. This position is responsible for the continued development of residential programs and summer programs. The successful candidate will be a dedicated college housing professional with experience in residence life and college student housing operations. An understanding of the value of a liberal arts education on a service-oriented residential campus is a necessity.
Assistant Director, Residence Life
The Assistant Director for Residence Life is a 12-month, full-time, live-on position requiring regular interaction with students, including nights and weekends. The position reports directly to the Associate Dean of Students/Director of Residence Life and works collaboratively with a second Assistant Director. As a member of the Campus Life staff, the AD promotes developing community in the residence halls and houses through student development and learning programs, enhancing the quality of life for undergraduate Arts & Sciences students in a residential community. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits. Qualifications include but not limited to:
Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field strongly preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of two years’ experience within a residence life/housing position in a college/university setting required.

Primary responsibilities include but not limited to:
Residence Hall and Apartment Administration: coordinate openings and closings, oversee room furniture and key inventories, maintain regular office hours, address and refer out maintenance concerns, participate in an “on-call” duty rotation, assist with housing selection, handle other tasks relative to residence hall management
Staff Supervision and Development: assist with all aspects of student staff selection, actively participate in all student staff training exercises, conduct weekly meetings with student staff, administer employee discipline when necessary, and assist with central office projects and assignments for a student staff.
Institutional Liaison/Referral: serve on assigned committees, serve as a resource person for needed referrals, and establish and maintain a rapport with other Campus Life staff.
Community Development: get to know residents individually by being available and accessible, assure community building/programming by RA/RD staff, maintain hall security, attend a majority of RA sponsored programs, proactively address all roommate issues, assist in the adjudication of disciplinary cases as required by Student Conduct, provide personal assistance to individuals or groups for conflict mediation, support institutional policies
Other Responsibilities: coordinate the crisis response actions for Residential Life Staff during serious incidents that occur in the residence halls and houses, participate in orientation programs for incoming students and parents interested in Residential Life information, serve as an active liaison between the College Administration/Faculty and the students, write and develop reports when requested.
Secondary Responsibilities in Student Programs include but not limited to:
Serve as a staff person in an additional area of Student Programs, coordinating and directing student participation to develop applicable programs. This area will be determined based on the qualified candidate’s skills and interests and the needs of the Office of Campus Life.
Departmental Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Participate in the Office of Campus Life’s team initiatives, including department wide in-services, staff meetings, and committees as assigned
Participate in institutional effectiveness measures including, but not limited to, annual goals and objectives, planning, and assessment
Participate in the appropriate state, regional, or national higher education professional organizations producing scholarship and providing leadership on behalf of the department and college
Perform other duties as assigned by the senior staff of Residence Life.
