Position Description

The Student Life Office of the MBA and MSx Programs at the Stanford Graduate School of Business strives to create conditions in which every student can thrive.  We seek an experienced and empathetic student affairs professional to join our team as an Assistant Director of Student Activities.  The central mission of this role is to serve as an advisor to the leaders of our graduate student-led organizations, with a special emphasis on identity groups and extra/co-curricular diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives.  This is done in a close partnership as one of a trio of advisors and with relevant cross-department teams throughout the business school, working on all elements of advising student leaders.

Responsibilities include guiding the student leaders of several annual major events, interpreting and communicating policy, evaluating event proposals, identifying and sharing best practices, advising on domestic club travel, developing and delivering leader orientation and training, and negotiating with groups throughout the school and the university.  In addition, this position plans and supports a portfolio of inclusion and equity events and activities.  This position has daily interaction with the MBA and MSx student populations and has a significant impact on the student experience for individual student leaders as well as for the student body as a whole.

The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with student organization leaders and appreciates the value of student activities in creating a vibrant student community. We seek someone who is confident in explaining and upholding policy, dedicated to improving current practices, and experienced in event planning.  Candidates should have a strong student-centered orientation, outstanding communication skills, a talent for influence and negotiation, acute problem-solving skills, diplomatic savvy, a good sense of humor and a sharp mind.  Candidates who have experience with student activities and advising and experience with professional graduate business students/culture are preferred.
