Position Description

The Viking Union (VU) at Western Washington University is looking for a Student Affairs professional who will advise and support the representation, governance, and civic engagement work of our students as well as contribute to a diverse and dynamic environment. In this position, you would draw upon familiarity with systems of student governance and programming that supports building equity and justice in order to enhance the success of our students. You will be part of our VU leadership team, helping to guide our organization within the larger University environment. 

 

This position will be working with:

Associated Students (AS) Executive Board, AS Senate and AS Representation and Engagement Program (approximately 50+ students and 25+ volunteers).
Supervises the Equity & Identity Resource Centers Coordinator (professional staff) and indirectly supervise 10+ student staff who manage the Equity & Identity Resource Centers (which include the Queer Resource Center, Disability Outreach Center, Womxn’s Identity Resource Center, Social Issues Resource Center, Legal information Center, and Veterans Community Coordinator).
Supervises the Associated Students Board Program Coordinator (full-time classified staff member) and indirectly supervise 7+ student staff reporting to Program Coordinator. 


Job Requirements

Degree Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in political science, education, sociology, leadership studies, or another related field that is relevant to the work PLUS 3 years of relevant work experience post-degree attainment 
- OR – 
Master’s degree in student affairs administration, education, management, public administration, political science, or another related field that is relevant to the work PLUS at least 1 year of relevant work experience post-degree attainment.

 

Preferred:

Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration, Education, Management, Psychology, or another field of study that supports the work assigned
