Position Description

The office of Student Involvement is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University of Louisville. The mission of Student Involvement is to foster engagement in student-led programs and services that enrich the education experience by maximizing the capacity of students to learn, serve and lead. Program areas within the office are:

Fraternity and Sorority Life is a vibrant part of student life at the University of Louisville. Experiencing record membership growth in the last year, approximately 2,300 undergraduate students are affiliated with one of the 34 fraternities and sororities. The Assistant Director will provide advising for the Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council in development of programmatic initiatives related to but not limited to membership recruitment activities, risk management, membership education, chapter advisor support, council programs, scholarship, officer training, chapter development, succession planning and community service. Provide overall coordination, consultation and training of Greek chapters in organizational development and management. Provide leadership in the management of Greek housing options and future development. Serve as liaison between chapters and University departments and advocate for those chapters. Maintain relationships with chapter advisers, advisory boards, house corporation boards, alumni and national headquarters. Insure that annual programs are presented on hazing prevention, alcohol education and scholarship advancement. Provide leadership in the execution and development of policy and procedure for Fraternity and Sorority Life.

In addition, the Assistant director serves as an active member of the Student Involvement leadership team contributing to departmental goals and objectives; they select, train, supervise and evaluate full-time coordinator, graduate assistant and interns; and maintain ongoing working relationships with University faculty and staff facilitating cooperative efforts among different departments and student groups. The position reports to the Director for the Office of Student Involvement.


Job Requirements

  • Understanding and knowledge of the role of Student Involvement administration, fraternity and sorority life, student leadership development and program management. Demonstrated administrative skills resulting in high quality and quantity of work produced. 
  • Knowledge and application of student development and student learning theory in higher education setting. Demonstrated high level of commitment to professionalism, excellent oral and written communication and outstanding leadership skills. 
  • Must possess strong analytical and organizational skills, sound decision making and problem solving abilities, be able to think strategically and determine the most effective use of resources. Strong interpersonal relationship skills with a demonstrated ability to advice and work with a variety of college students, staff, faculty and alumni. Membership in a Greek chapter is expected.
