Position Description

The Assistant Director of Residence Life Ministry for Multi-faith Support and Religious Literacy at the University of Dayton, A Catholic and Marianist university, serves students from diverse faith traditions and initiates, designs, and implements opportunities for the wider campus community to increase religious literacy, and engage in interfaith dialogue. As a member of the Residence Life Ministry team, provides unique expertise and collaborative opportunities for multi-faith religious literacy and pastoral support across a spectrum of faith traditions through direct ministry with students and the development of outreach initiatives among students of particular faith traditions (Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Orthodox, etc.), multi-faith religious literacy and educational opportunities, interfaith sharing/dialogue/study groups, prayer/reflection events, student leadership development, and other programs and experiences.  The minister will also provide pastoral care, coordinate community development activities with the Residence Life staff, network residents with other campus wide programs, partner with the Center for International Programs, and foster engagement with faith communities in the Dayton area to meet the goals for this ministry.

This minister is committed to uphold the Catholic and Marianist vision of the University through ministry across the spectrum of major faith and belief traditions while cultivating diverse expressions of the faith life of the campus community. 

10-month/year full-time exempt position with full benefits open to people of all religious identities. Job Requirements

Required qualifications:

Bachelor degree

Understanding of beliefs and practices of the world's major religions

Familiarity with methodologies and practices in facilitating interfaith relationships

Experience with pastoral care and crises response

Strong written communication skills

Willingness to work late evenings and some weekends

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree (Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Studies or related field)

Higher Education experience

Knowledge of young adult faith development

 

Demonstrated successful experience in the following:

Capacity to facilitate dialogue across difference

Direct ministry to youth/young adults

Ability to recruit, train, and supervise undergraduate student leaders

Ability to generate enthusiasm for faith among college students

Ability to relate to and serve as a mentor for students

Ability to work collaboratively on a team

Ability to organize and manage multiple projects

Capacity to represent the Catholic and Marianist character of the university

Strong oral communication skills

Fluency in current knowledge and practice of social media in ministry

Ability to collaborate with and serve people from diverse faith and cultural backgrounds
