Position Description

The Assistant Director of Intervention Programs is responsible for supporting the student experience by overseeing the community standards process, alternative intervention programs, and providing response to student concerns.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

Oversee the community standards process for individuals and organizations. Conduct intake meetings, determine sanctions, select and train hearing board members, coordinate hearings, manage and report on community standards statistics, communicate with parents about individual student behavior and consequences, and facilitate the formal warning class.

Develop intervention programs that can serve as an alternative to or work in coordination with the community standards process, including restorative justice and behavioral interventions. Coordinate and track interventions for students of concern and students who have participated in the Community Standards Process.

Collaborate on accountability and intervention strategies with campus and community partners, including but not limited to: the Office of Alcohol Initiatives, Campus Living and Community Development, Counseling Services, Title IX, and Public Safety.  

Provide response to student concerns and meet with students who are experiencing significant personal challenges. Serve as a liaison with Class Deans regarding student concerns, and attending the CARE meeting. Strategically communicate with individual parents related to students of concern.

Supervise the Program Assistant in Student Academic Life.

Participate in the on-call response system to provide assistance with crisis intervention and support of on-call staff.

Serve on University Committees, as assigned.

Complete other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students.


Job Requirements

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or other advanced academic preparation from an accredited college or university required.

Experience:

  • Administrative experience in an educational setting or equivalent, and experience working collaboratively with other administrators, faculty and staff to advance institutional goals.
  • Experience with student conduct systems and strategies.  
  • Understanding of and/or experience in a residential, liberal arts college environment.
  • Communication/Language: Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to groups, and/or colleagues.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  
  • Computer Skills: Experience with Word, Excel, and Gmail.
  • Demonstrated crisis response skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with and sensitivity to individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and a commitment to a diverse community.
  • Ability to envision and design strategies for student success.
  • Commitment to and history of strong belief in mentoring students.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong decision making and organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
