Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Prevention and Men's Engagement in CARE coordinates and implements student-focused prevention education targeting the reduction of sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking and promoting healthy sexuality. Reporting to the Director of CARE, the Assistant Director helps develop and implement the strategic plan related to men's engagement, community outreach, and student trainings. The Assistant Director will be responsible for tracking data of training, outreach, and education by CARE staff and peer educators for annual reporting. The Assistant Director will also serve as a survivor advocate for students affected by sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking. The Assistant Director serves a member of the CARE Leadership team.

Specific Responsibilities:


  • Oversees & ensures that day-to-day operations are appropriately managed, efficient and effective.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the annual online module, Haven, completed by all incoming students.

Communication, Outreach & Recruitment

  • Respond to student requests for training and education, including group interventions partnered with the Office of Student Conduct and awareness events around consent, sexual violence, healthy relationships, etc. Partner with the Director of CARE for trainings of student leaders and staff as needed.
  • Manage outreach work such as tabling, drop in hours, and dissemination of marketing materials. Promote CARE's in person support presence on campus.
  • Create and maintain content for the CARE departmental website ( and departmental social media presence.


  • Manages development and maintenance of evaluation processes including associated metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Coordinate tracking data of training, outreach, and education by CARE staff and peer educators for annual reporting.
  • Work with the Director to assess training and education and set learning outcomes for student participation in CARE prevention programs.

Program Development

  • Build collaborative partnerships with relevant staff and faculty, including staff in Fraternity and Sorority Life, Athletics, and Social Justice Education, in order to offer collaborative programming and achieve goals related to sexual violence education.
  • In partnership with other offices on campus, lead men's engagement programming and education around healthy masculinity. This includes the management, implementation, and curriculum development of the NU Men program each quarter.
  • Serves as the advisor/coordinator to the Men Against Rape and Sexual assault (MARS) peer education program and complete duties associated with continued development and maintenance of the program including recruitment, selection, and training of new peer educators; oversee the program's executive leadership board; coordinate MARS-sponsored events, programming, and educational presentations, and provide evaluation/assessment of the program.
  • Co-coordinate the Step Up NU! bystander intervention program in partnership with the Office of Campus Inclusion and Community.

Strategic Planning

  • Reporting to the Director of CARE, the Assistant Director helps develop and implement the strategic plan related to men's engagement, community outreach, and student trainings.
  • Serves as a member of the CARE Leadership team.
  • Provide input on strategic planning and vision and ensure objectives are met.

Student Support

  • Provide survivor support and advocacy services for Northwestern students, with a focus on male-identified survivors of sexual violence and any students seeking information on supporting a friend.
  • Participate in advocating for trauma informed processes and policies at Northwestern through partnerships with Sexual Harassment Prevention Office, Office of Student Conduct, Dean of Students, NUPD, and others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years program/project administration or other relevant experience.

Minimum Competencies:

  • Ability to prepare and effectively deliver education programs and materials to university students.
  • Skills in creative community engagement and trust building.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice, including demonstrated competency in gender identity.
  • Awareness of personal boundaries and ability to provide self-care.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) as well as general interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information sensitively and with integrity.
  • Ability to lead challenging conversations with students and staff with respect and empathy.
  • Ability to use sound judgment when responding to crises.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, on-and off-campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field + 2 years relevant.
  • Experience with primary and secondary prevention initiatives in college health.
  • Experience supervising volunteers, interns, or college students.
  • Experience with peer education and advising.
  • Knowledge and experience in survivor advocacy work, including medical, Title IX, and/or legal advocacy.
