Position Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant Director of Residence Life for Residential Education serves the Emory University community by overseeing the staff and day-to-day operations of a residential area. Directly supervises professional staff including Complex Director(s) and indirectly supervises paraprofessional staff and graduate assistants. Assists with oversight of residence hall operations, policies, and procedures in conjunction with Residence Life staff, Housing Operations, and Campus Services. Supervises assigned project(s) for the Office of Residence Life. (e.g. Pre-College, Summer School, RHA), and oversees coordination of a Year Experience program. Co-coordinates recruitment, selection, and training of all faculty-in-residence. Manages the administration of residential area theme communities in coordination with Complex Directors, Housing Operations, and campus partners. Assists with the recruitment, selection, and training of student and professional staff positions. Oversees area programming budgets. Responds to students' and parents' concerns. Serves in rotation of on-call professionals responding to emergencies. Counsels students and responds to residential crises as necessary. Teaches or co-teaches a peer counseling course for Resident Advisors (RAs). Advised student groups as necessary. Attends university, divisional, departmental, and area meetings as required. Serves on university, divisional, and departmental committees. Serves as a hearing officer for the Office of Student Conduct. Maintains meaningful involvement with relevant professional organizations and engages in efforts to increase professional excellence. Performs other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION:

Residential Education
• Assist Director of Residential Education (DRE) in the management and coordination of residential education initiatives related to the first-year experience.
• Participate in the Residential Education committee with DRE and CD collateral lead.
• Work with DRE to assist in the coordination and logistics of the ECS 100 (RA Class).

· Ability to work nights and weekends.


Reporting:
This position reports to the Director of Residential Education.


Logistics:
This position includes night and weekend hours and live-in responsibilities. Staff housing accommodations (apartment with private bath) and a meal plan will be provided. All utilities including water, heat, electricity, residential network access, and cable service are provided at no additional cost.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A master's or advanced degree in higher education, student affairs, or closely related field, and three years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified for the position.
