Position Description

The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of Residence Life and will serve primarily as the planner, developer, evaluator, and administrator of the residence life programmatic functions including director supervision of the live-in and live-on professional staff.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide developmental supervision to the Hall Directors including training and evaluation.
  • Coordinate Resident Assistant selection, training and evaluation.
  • Maintain instructional materials and manuals for Residence Life staff to include:
    • The distribution, formatting, and design of all material.
    • Assisting with the development of requested policies and procedures. 
    • Maintaining the Residence Life resource room.
  • Ensure the ongoing development of the Residence Hall Association and work with the Residence Hall Directors in the development of Hall Councils.
  • Administer the Department’s educational and personal growth programs with an emphasis on academic support.
  • Serve as the Residence Life Conduct Officer and work collaboratively with the University Conduct Officer.
  • Assist the Director of Residence Life with the department marketing efforts.
  • Oversee departmental assessments and disbursements of results.
  • Participate in short and long range Residence Life planning
  • Research and develop living and learning communities
  • Provide direction to Hall Directors in the overall implementation of the First Year Residential Experience
  • Perform other duties s assigned to support the mission of the Department of Residence Life

Participation in state and regional organizations is strongly encouraged.  Travel to state, regional and national conferences for the purposes of professional development is encouraged.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of state, federal, and university policies, procedures, and regulations regarding campus housing.
• Knowledge of student development theory.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Other:

The Assistant Director of Residence has daily contact with subordinate staff as well as Associate Director of Residence Life and frequent contact with other Student Affairs personnel. Participation in state and regional organizations is strongly encouraged. Travel to state, regional, and national conferences for the purposes of professional development is encouraged.


Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in education with emphasis in College Student Personnel, or related field required; three to five years of Residence Life management experience is preferred.
