Position Description

Summary: Assists Director of Student Services in implementing and coordinating the Residence Life program. Contributes leadership to residential programming and supervision of residential life professional and student staff. This position supervises professional staff. 

Also, serves as Resident Director for up to two halls, and provides oversight and/or management for additional halls on-campus.  This is a full-time, twelve-month, live-in position. An apartment will be provided in one of the residence halls. Pets are allowed with a signed pet agreement and deposit. Supervision responsibilities will include supervising 5 professional staff and up to 6-12 student employees (Resident Assistants).

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assistant Director

  • Select, train, and supervise 5-6 professional staff (Resident Directors)
  • Provide Resident Directors with orientation to Residence Life policies and procedures; keep staff informed and current on any information and/or revisions concerned with Residence Life and individual halls through weekly staff meetings.
  • Oversees the selection, training, and supervision of student staff, including fall training, winter training, and on-going training
  • Participates in Residential Life area on-call coverage, in collaboration with Director of Student Services and Assistant Dean of Students.
  • Coordinates Fines and Damages reporting. 
  • Assists the Director of Student Services in the implementation of Residence Life programs such as staff development and training, programming, and special projects. 
  • Coordinates Care Package and Linen sales.
  • Organizes residence hall openings and closings related to breaks and the beginning and ending of semesters.
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings, as well as professional development and training sessions.
  • Participation in Fit.Green.Happy® initiatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Regular attendance is required.                                            

Directly supervises Resident Directors and Resident Assistants. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and, addressing complaints and resolving problems

 The Resident Director manages up to two residence halls that house a total of approximately 220-275 students. Positions requires employee to live on campus.. Part of the position includes a semi-furnished apartment (year-long), board plan (August-May), and  parking space(s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Include the following:

Supervise 6-12 Resident Assistants
Communicate regularly with supervisor concerning day-to-day functions of building
Attend and conduct regular staff meetings
Assist with selection, training and evaluating all staff
Coordinate all programming efforts in the residence halls
Serve in an on-call rotation as the primary emergency contact for the campus
Assist with room assignments processes
Oversee efforts to keep the building’s maintenance current and in good working order
Advise hall council activities
Serve as a conduct Hearing Officer in consultation with the Director of Student Services

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience:                                            

Master’s degree required with a specialization in Higher Education, College Student Personnel or closely related field. Must have experience with residential students, student conduct, student programming, and supervision.
