Position Description

The Department of Residential Education within the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management is seeking an Assistant Director for Residential Education.

The Assistant Director will be responsible for the first line of leadership and management of residential life that includes a residential area of 1600 - 2000 residents.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising two full-time residential education coordinators and one half-time graduate assistant (Hall Director).
  • Building a productive, high functioning work group among area Residential Education staff.
  • Working to build positive and productive partnerships with campus partners.
  • Staying current and informed of campus events and issues to provide direction and counsel regarding relevant programs and needs.
  • Designing, developing and overseeing residential programs including assessment, enhancement and maintenance of campus partnerships.
  • Managing response to conduct and crisis in his or her area.
  • Assisting GA and RA staff to develop and organize programs and activities that encourage learning and personal development of residents living on-campus.
  • Actively engaging with staff members in developmental supervision.
  • Contributing to recruitment, selection and training of residence staff.
  • Planning, coordinating and conducting professional Resident Assistant and student staff training.
  • Keeping staff fully informed of departmental priorities and decisions while also soliciting information and feedback from staff to report to leadership.
  • Contributing to shaping and accomplishing the vision and goals of Housing & Residential Education.
  • Serving in the absence of the Associate Director or Director.
  • Serving as a liaison between Residential Life and the University, representing Residential Education at various meetings, programs and committees.
  • Utilizing complex and multi-faceted approach to problem solving, integrating information from multiple sources, synthesizing information, and developing comprehensive responses and assessment methodologies.
  • Serving in Central Staff on Call duty rotation.
  • Bringing strategic, thoughtful and values-based response to emergencies and crises.
  • Supporting staff in response and decision-making, ensuring consistency across the department, student centered approach while protecting the interests of the University.
  • Participating in University and Student Affairs Divisional projects, functions and committees.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Director and Associate Director.

Job Requirements

Master's degree from an accredited institution in Student Personnel, Counseling, Education or related field and a minimum of five years of professional experience working with students in a college or university setting required.

Must live on campus in University-provided apartment

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential to success in this position.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.

Must also have excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills.
