NEW STUDENT PROGRAMS
Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Engagement for New Student Programs

Nature of the position

The Assistant Director of New Student Programs is a full time academic professional staff member in the New Student Programs office that oversees, implements, and evaluates a variety of orientation programs and transition services for new undergraduate students (freshman, transfer, and international). The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director of New Student Programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Directly recruit, hire, and supervise student staff: Orientation Student Coordinators (4) and Orientation Leaders (80)
2. Develop and teach LAS 399 - Student Leadership Development course for Orientation Leader Staff
3. Develop and implement all aspects of the INBOUND extended orientation program for incoming students
4. Assist with the development and support of fall orientation programs: Undergraduate International Student Orientation, Fall Orientation/Welcome Days programs and sit on related committees
5. Develop, utilize, and execute outcome assessment of related programming within the New Student Programs office
6. Manage all New Student Programs social media and emerging technology platforms - 5%
7. Participate in and contribute to professional development/activity (research, conferences, publications)
8. Serve on various campus and division committees
9. Perform other duties as assigned (including campus committees) to advance the unit, department, and division

Required qualifications

1. Master's Degree in counseling, higher education, student personnel, or related field is required
2. 1 or more years of experience in collegiate student affairs, experience may be graduate work (two years of graduate work in Student Affairs would be equal to one year of full-time experience)
3. Demonstrated staff training and supervision experience
4. Demonstrated experience in development and delivery of transitional programs for a diverse student body

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience working directly with orientation programming post undergraduate
2. Experience supervising a large student staff
3. Demonstrated assessment experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Strong Time Management skills
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
3. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism and ability to work with a diverse student group
4. Demonstrated organizational, leadership, communication, and public relations skills
5. Ability to work autonomously; takes initiative and able to think critically and creatively to solve problems

Appointment Type

Regular twelve month, 100% academic professional appointment. Proposed start date is December 1, 2019.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
