Position Description

Serves as a critical member of the Student Transitions and Family Engagement team to direct daily operations, planning, and implementation of new and existing First Year Experience (FYE) programs and operations, in collaboration with campus partners, with a primary focus on transition, engagement, and student success .

  • Collaborate with the STFE Director, Assistant Director, and multiple campus partners, share responsibility for various aspects of existing and new transitional programs, events and initiatives that support the First Year Experience. 
  • Market, recruit and assist in placement of students in Living Learning Communities (LLCs) in the residence halls and also support faculty and academic partners with program offerings for Learning Communities (LCs).  
  • Facilitate the collaborative implementation and delivery of programs in support of the FYE through the Common Experience and other transitional offerings, as well as provide direction for ongoing program assessment. 
  • Recruit, train, and co-supervise as many as 35 student mentors, who work with freshman seminar courses to provide support to students in the first year.   
  • Create opportunities for students in LLCs and LCs to participate in experiences that highlight wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, local and global issues, and the arts. 
  • Participate in the facilitation of programs affiliated with the office such as New Student Orientation, Anchors and Welcome Days, transfer support initiatives, and faculty and staff professional development initiatives. 
  • Manage a portion of the STFE budget. 
  • Collaborate with numerous faculty and staff in support of recruitment, retention, and persistence through graduation. 

Job Requirements

Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration or related field, one to two years of experience planning/executing activities and programs for students and family members in a college or university setting, and knowledge of higher education and student affairs functions, and student development theory.  Preferred qualifications include previous oversight or supervision of first year experience programs and services, strong programming and project management skills, a commitment to serving a diverse group of students, effective communication skills and the ability to work cohesively with faculty and campus partners. Must possess an unencumbered driver’s license and the ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
