Reporting to the Director of Residential Programs, the Assistant Director of Residential Programs will be a member of the department's leadership team, and will participate in strategic planning and decision making for the area. This position provides leadership for the unit’s efforts around equality, inclusion, and diversity. The Assistant Director participates in the organization and function of Staff Orientation and On-boarding, Student Move-In and Orientation, Summer Programs, major Operational Processes and selected unit and campus committees meetings. You will serve as a liaison to the Title 9 office and provide education for all student staff and professional staff in Residential Programs, addressing issues surrounding sexual violence prevention. This position will assist in the ongoing implementation and development of the residential curriculum. The Assistant Director will supervise professional staff (residential hall directors) and be an important contributor to the development of the residential experience.

Job Requirements

Key Success Factors:
  • Strong leadership, in both vision and the ability to organize others through implementation.
  • Previous experience in supervising and developing professional staff at the resident hall director level is necessary, with significant experience in professional career development.
  • Experience working effectively with student governance groups and significant experience working collaboratively and successfully with faculty are essential.
  • Proven success in persuading others, adapting communication to various audiences, and facilitating presentations is required.
  • Comfort with a decentralized institution and solid experience with building and maintaining both broad and deep relationships with key stakeholders that support the health and well-being of students is necessary.
  • A deep understanding of the educational value of a diverse community, coupled with a demonstrated record of accomplishment advancing diversity and enhancing inclusiveness are required.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Student Development /Higher Education or relevant field, and 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Experience in supervision, administration, training and development 
  • Understanding of the residential living/learning experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in residential living/student services
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Student Development /Higher Education
  • Experience advancing a Residential Curriculum Model
