Position Description

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Orientation and Parent/Family Programs, the Assistant Director provides leadership for the learning, growth, and transition of incoming undergraduate students through Orientation and Welcome Week program initiatives.

The Assistant Director manages the hiring, training, and supervision of Orientation student staff consisting of Orientation Leaders, Student Coordinators and graduate interns. Aligned with the Northeastern framework competencies, the Assistant Director will develop training that centers fostering a sense of belonging for all students, building cultural competence, professional effectiveness, and collaborative leadership skills. The Assistant Director will create and maintain strong connections with campus partners and other stakeholders to provide training to staff as well as providing reciprocal support.

The Assistant Director will oversee and manage operational tasks that support program logistics.

Qualifications

Provide the minimum education, experience, and skills required to perform the job successfully.

Master’s degree required in Student Development/Leadership, Student Counseling, or Higher Ed Administration.

The qualified candidate will possess a minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in student development and leadership or a higher education setting and/or related field. The candidate should have experience in designing and assessing learning outcomes and implementing developmental and holistic content for learners; both new students and student leaders. The candidate should also have experience in collaborating with campus partners and other first-year transition initiatives to ensure synergistic content and relationships. The Assistant Director must be able to work and make decisions independently, and exercise discretion and good judgment in areas of responsibility, and know and adhere by University policy and protocol. Must display patience, poise and a positive attitude. Must be creative and innovative, detail-oriented, possess the ability to skillfully prioritize and complete projects under tight deadlines, and work with confidential information.
