Position Description

Performs varied and complex administrative duties in the management and coordination of a large specialized project and/or program. Requires independent judgment and application of established policies and procedures. Works under general supervision with evaluation based on overall results obtained.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Develops and leads components of First Generation Transition and Mentoring Programs and the Dream Resource Center, including recruitment, outreach, program development, one on one student meetings, peer coach training, and development, services, as well as new programs and initiatives.
  • Assists in the development, design, coordination, and implementation of programs that foster peer, faculty, and staff mentoring and student retention along with strategic university and division collaborations.
  • Hire, train and supervise student staff of assigned areas through the development of programs, services, experiences of first-generation, low-income, minoritized and marginalized student success, retention, and graduation.
  • Assist with program recruitment efforts to include targeted outreach to incoming first-year students, transfer students and graduate students in collaboration with admissions, graduate college, student affairs and other academic and student services partners.
  • Analyze, interpret, assess and keep accurate and detailed records of unit activities to track attendance, demographics, retention, persistence, learning outcomes, program assessment and other data needed to further support student success, division priorities, and university strategic plan.
  • Manage the First Generation Transition and Mentoring Programs and Dream Resource Center student lounges.
  • Assist in planning the I’m First Gen Annual Summit to include recruiting participants, soliciting presentations, set-up, marketing, and logistics.
  • Responsible for budget tracking, assists with budget projections and review of fiscal accounts, prepare fiscal reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policy and guidelines.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of University policies, procedures, and protocols regarding event coordination, academic progress, student code of conduct, financial aid and other areas impacting first-generation students and DRC students; engage with other university partners when needed.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to advance diversity, equity and inclusion efforts that will include signature events, programs, and experience.
  • Serve on collaborative planning committees and/or task team involving students, faculty, and staff to support and promote university-wide student efforts.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Three years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job-related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in higher education, student affairs, or a related field.

  • Direct experience working with college student retention, success and/or mentoring programs focused on programming, interventions and persistence efforts.

  • Experience working with diverse students in a college/university setting with direct experience working with underrepresented, undocumented, DACA, first-generation, and marginalized student populations.

  • Experience in academic advising, organization advising, student development/youth development, educational transition, student engagement, co-curricular learning, and/or mentoring services.

  • Demonstrated experience incorporating student development theory and best practices in college/university level program development, implementation, and evaluation.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing student programming/activities in a higher education setting, including workshops, presentations, and events; leadership development and techniques.

  • Demonstrated experience in planning programs and events including oversight of logistics.

  • Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.

  • Experience assessing data to create reports, assessments and outcomes-based reporting.

  • Demonstrated experience in program development, coordination, and implementation; promoting university student programs and services.

  • Effective presentation and public speaking skills.

  • Experience supervising student staff.

  • Experience utilizing various technology to include Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web-based data systems.

  • Evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills.
