Position Description

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is Seeking:  Associate Dean, Off Campus Community 

The Associate Dean, is responsible for providing support for Clustered Learning, Advocacy and Support for students (CLASS) through the implementation of programs and services for students living in the off-campus commons. Programs, such as Safe Ride, an innovative Ride Share service providing students with free evening/late-night transportation option.

In addition, the Associate Dean, will assist with development and implementation of civic engagement and community service opportunities that enhance student leadership, academic, and professional goals. The incumbent will develop all policies and procedures, marketing strategies, data collection methods and provide daily management for the off-campus community center and civic engagement program.

(CLASS)- Clustered Learning, Advocacy, and Support for Students is a comprehensive approach to the student experience at Rensselaer. Through ongoing support, guidance, and co-curricular activities, CLASS connects students to a network of faculty, staff, and other students, ensuring that they are part of a strong community of learners. As students strive to become the leaders of tomorrow, CLASS helps them develop the intellectual agility, multicultural sophistication, and global awareness that will enable them to change the world.


Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in student personnel, higher education administration, or counseling or related area
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in higher education administration with three (3) years of experience directly working with commuter and/or off-campus students
  • Experience in program planning, facility management, budget development, and assessment

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of commuter students and services, and national best practices
  • Demonstrated understanding of civic engagement and service learning theory and practice
  • Demonstrated understanding of student and identity development theory and ability to apply constructs in programming
  • Demonstrated experience in development of programs and services for off-campus or commuter services
  • Demonstrated experience responding appropriately to student concerns and manage student issues
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Requires ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to work in fast paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated problem solving and project management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives
