Position Description

The Associate Director for Residential Learning is responsible for fostering an environment conducive to both personal and professional growth for students, and achieving the objectives of a successful University Housing program that connects to the academic mission of CSU. This position oversees the programmatic aspects of a comprehensive educational program within the residential communities. Primary responsibilities include: supervision of 3 FTE Assistant Directors, creating and leading a vision for Residential Learning Communities, academic initiatives, diversity, social justice and inclusion initiatives, creating inclusive communities, assessment, as well as student leadership and engagement. In addition, the Associate Director serves in an on-call rotation. The Associate Director will carry out their responsibilities under the supervision of the Director of University Housing.
The successful candidate must be well-organized and able to work well under pressure with multiple and consistently changing deadlines. To be successful in the position, the Associate Director must have excellent interpersonal communication, organization, administrative skills and demonstrated experience with taking initiative. In addition, the Associate Director will need a strong ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with multiple constituents including campus offices, students, staff, faculty members and various other community groups.
In addition, experience working with diverse individuals such as non-traditional aged, religiously diverse, gender, international, people with disabilities, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender, and persons of color is essential to be effective in the Associate Director position.


Job Requirements

Required Job Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education or related field
5 years of full-time experience in Student Affairs and/or Housing
Supervision of various levels of staff (i.e. paraprofessional, graduate and undergraduate students, non-student hourly)
Experience working with learning communities
Experience working with residential communities in a college/university setting
Experience leading projects and initiatives
Experience working with people from a broad diversity of backgrounds

Preferred Job Qualifications

Experience with analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, group dynamics
Experience with crisis management and ability for problem-solving
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships
Experience developing and managing budgets and fiscal processes
