Position Description

The Associate Director of Residence Life provides strategic leadership to the Office of Residence Life, particularly in the areas of housing operations, assignments, marketing, planning, and communications. This position is a critical member of the Residence Life leadership team and is responsible for advancing the vision, mission, goals and priorities of the Residential Campus Experience at Elon University.


Job Requirements

Departmental Leadership and Supervision 
• Collaborate with the Director of Residence Life on developing and implementing departmental vision, mission, and goals.
• Supervise an Assistant Director of Housing Operations, and two live-in Community Directors (apartment neighborhoods).
• Indirect supervision of six neighborhood Program Assistants.
• Develop, update, and maintain a procedures manual detailing processes of the Department.
• Coordinate departmental assessment efforts, including regular quality of life surveys, learning outcomes assessment, and program evaluation.
• Coordinate departmental communications efforts, including oversight for departmental marketing plans, website, and parent/family communication.
• Assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from housing issues brought forth by students, families, or by referral from the university community (i.e. – Office of the President, Vice President/Dean of Students, Admissions Office, Parent Relations, etc.).
• Develop positive relationships with campus partners such as Admissions, Application Technologies, Athletics, Bursar, Business and Finance, Campus Safety and Police, Disabilities Services, Global Education Center, Physical Plant, and other Student Life departments.

Housing Operations, Planning, and Management
• Direct and manage housing operations of the residence life program (4,100 bed capacity).
• Coordinate logistics for housing master planning and serve as a liaison to Planning, Design, and Construction Management.
• Coordinate occupancy projections and forecast residential facility needs.
• Provide oversight for the housing data management system and maintaining accurate student records.
• Direct housing administrative functions including, but not limited to: billing, assignments for new and returning students, status of housing reports, housing appeals, break housing, room change process, student arrival and departure process, end of semester closing, and early arrivals.
• Provide training and support for Residence Life staff in housing procedures and operations.

Other
• Serve as a departmental representative to divisional and university committees, work groups, and task forces.
• Serve as an Administrator-on-Call as part of the Student Life weekly on-call rotation
• Other duties assigned by the Director
