Position Summary:
The Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program provides guidance, opportunities and support for low-income, first generation and under-represented K-12, community college and university students in their pursuit of bachelor's degrees and careers in STEM (science technology engineering math) fields. MESA's overall goals are to enhance diversity at California's universities and increase the pool of diverse talent for the STEM workforce.

The College Program Coordinator uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with programs, policies, and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies, and procedures for possible implementation.

Duties

Duty 1: Facilitates and/or implements undergraduate initiatives involving multiple MESA centers including the MESA Idea Accelerator, the MESA Student Leadership Conference, and MESA mentoring programs. Will formulate director meeting agendas and trainings for students and new directors, in person and via webinars.

Percent: 60

Duty 2: Coordinates contracting process for undergraduate initiatives which includes determining scope of work and deliverables for new projects. Monitors deliverables for new grants and special projects. Conducts post-implementation analysis to determine the need for further enhancements. Communicates with UC and campus-based finance officers.

Percent: 15

Duty 3: Provides data analysis and coordination to external and internal collaborators including undergraduate, community college, and pre-college site directors with a focus on student transitions across educational levels. Supports all data collection efforts for reporting purposes. Researches, summarizes, and disseminates best practices and curricula in STEM education. Maintains online resources for MESA site directors.

Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Strong project management and information design skills suitable for managing complex, multi-campus and systemwide initiatives; and make recommendations for action.

Demonstrated experience providing committee staff support including maintaining a working knowledge of issues discussed at meeting; recommending agenda items, writing, editing, and disseminating minutes; noting and following up on action items; researching and analyzing background information and preparing information.

Excellent written and editorial skills as demonstrated by the ability to articulate complex information and issues clearly, concisely and persuasively in reports, summary notes, meeting minutes, and responses to requests for information and other documents.

Strong verbal and interpersonal skills as demonstrated by ability to work collaboratively and productively with a diverse range of professional and academic staff members and groups.

Demonstrated ability to function in a complex institutional environment and strong organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple, often competing assignments. Ability to work proactively and to plan and prioritize work to meet tight deadlines.

Understanding of and commitment to principals of community, diversity, equity and inclusion. Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.

Demonstrated superior skills using Microsoft Office Suite and the internet.

Understanding of the University of California organizational structure, mode of governance, policies, procedures, and regulations particularly the role of the university in working with community college and K-12 students. Knowledge of STEM undergraduate graduation requirements and policies.

Weekend and evening work may be required.
