Position Description

The Complex Coordinator is responsible for all residence hall operations and to provide a comprehensive academic program of leadership and management for a residence hall area housing 400 to 800 students.​​
 
  • Leadership and Supervision: Responsible for providing overall leadership to the residential community. Directly supervises 10-20 Resident Assistants, hourly Desk Assistants, up to 1 Graduate Assistant, and/or 1 full-time Administrative Assistant during the academic year and summer staff during the summer months. Ensures that the principles and functions of staff members are well understood, aligned, and integrated with UHD and The University of Texas at Austin mission, in service of residential students. Maintains departmental visibility. Serves as a point of contact and reference for students and visitors.

  • Residential Management and Curriculum Development: Creates compelling living learning environments in the residence hall(s) by overseeing the implementation of the departmental residential curriculum. Manages programming budgets. Supports department LLCs, and collaborates with the Associate Director and Learning Initiatives Manager for academic and community development initiatives. Work collaboratively with other complex coordinators to create lesson plans for residential curriculum.

  • Advising: Has consistent, direct contact with students throughout the residence hall. Assists UHD colleagues and the University Residence Hall Association. Advises hall/community councils. Provides leadership and direction for development of interpersonal relationships with and among students in residential communities to ensure a safe, secure, healthy living and learning environment.

  • Conduct Adjudication and Administration: Holds conduct conferences for UHD policy infractions, institutional rules violations, and other behavioral concerns. May act as a representative of the Dean of Students Office to hear conduct cases. Works with UHD and Emergency Support staff to prevent and respond to incidents of policy violations. Works with the Simplicity judicial database and related student records.

  • Department Processes and Professional Development: Chairs and/or serves on various UHD committees, task forces, and work groups. Completes collateral and/or administrative assignments for departmental and campus partners. Represents Residence Life in departmental and campus committees and at university functions. Provides leadership and direction for special tasks, and other duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor and/or other members of the Residence Life Leadership Team. Develops student staff selection, orientation, training, and personal/professional growth opportunities. Participates in UHD, campus-wide, regional and national initiatives, projects, conferences and committees. Actively participates in student staff selection process, training processes, staff development activities, and other departmental functions and priorities. Participates in the professional staff selection and training processes.

  • Facilities and Collaboration: Responsible for coordinating with Building Services and Facilities colleagues in maintenance and improvement of the physical facilities, residential services, and training. Monitors, reports on, and follows up on maintenance requests, fire and life safety initiatives and communications for assigned hall(s). Provides leadership and direction for a residential area and collaborates with maintenance, custodial, dining, and administrative staff.

  • Committees: Chairing and/or serving on various UHD committees; completing collateral and/or administrative assignments; providing leadership and direction for special tasks, and other duties as needed or as assigned by the supervising Assistant Director and/or the Associate Director for Residence Life. Drives UT Vehicle.

Work Shift
Complex Coordinators are 40 hour employees with standard office hours of 10AM to 5PM. Work days, hours and area may vary based upon the needs of Unit and Housing and Dining (UHD).

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. Experience in a supervisory capacity, an administration position, or teaching. Must be a team-player with extensive experience in customer service. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree. Three or more years of experience in a residence hall setting. Experience in university residence management and supervision of student development personnel. Experience with summer camps or conferences management. Experience in university administration. Experience with assessment. Experience working in a large, public University setting. Experience working with residential curricula. Complex Coordinators are required to live in residence hall. Proficient using Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, ability to multi-task and analyze processes. Must be a team-player. Experience in diversity programming, counseling, and conflict resolution across cultures as well as the ability to work collaboratively with members of a diverse community. Experience planning workshops for staff development/training. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written, and professional demeanor. Ability to multi-task and analyze processes. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's degree. Preference for TPE interviews for those who apply by February 1, 2019. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License.
