Position Description

Coordinator for Leadership Programs

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Coordinator for Leadership Programs within the Kimmel Student Involvement Center.  This position serves as the primary resource person for campus leadership programs and works collaboratively with student leaders, faculty, and staff to manage on-campus student leadership development opportunities.  The Coordinator for Leadership Programs is responsible for the growth and maintenance of Kimmel Student Involvement Center leadership initiatives, the creation and implementation of strategic leadership training programs, and the development of co-curricular student leadership curriculums. 

The Coordinator for Leadership Programs Responsibilities Include:

  • Design, develop, and implement Kimmel Student Involvement Center leadership programs including: Emerging Leaders, Leadership Lunches, Peer Leaders Group, Diversity & Leadership Institute, Women’s Leadership Institute, and the annual Kimmel Leadership Awards Ceremony.
  • Serve as the primary point person for the implementation and growth of campus-wide leadership initiatives such as the Diversity & Leadership Institute and the Women’s Leadership Institute.
  • Serve as the program coordinator for the annual LeaderShape leadership conference.
  • Provide leadership training and sessions to targeted student organizations, including but not limited to: Campus Activities Board, Student Government, Fraternity & Sorority Life, and Dance Marathon. 
  • Provide as needed assistance to recognized SIUE student organizations in leadership training, team building, and ice breaker activities. 
  • Coordinate the leadership conference sessions for the annual Student Organization Leadership Orientation.
  • Coordinate the annual Kimmel Scholarship application and selection process.
  • Cultivate and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with campus partners, faculty and staff, and the general public to assist in the promotion and marketing of campus leadership activities
  • Oversee the administrative functions of the program area including maintenance of the website; coordination of communication for students, advisors, and student organization members; production of grade reports; and financial processes for leadership-based activities and services
  • Conduct assessment and evaluation initiatives utilizing assessment instruments to identify the extent to which student leadership activities support the University’s mission and vision and student development

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.  Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, or related field is preferred.

Minimum Experience Required:

  • Demonstrated experience working work student organizations and leadership programs
  • Knowledge of student development theory, legal issues in higher education, and risk management practices
  • Experience supervising student staff or graduate assistants
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for programming and departmental requirements
  • The candidate must possess the ability to work effectively in a team and fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines. There will also be times when the candidate will be expected to complete tasks, make decisions, and communicate with staff with little or no supervision. Must be able to multitask and take initiative when necessary
