Position Description

The Coordinator for Staff Training is responsible for fostering an environment conducive to both personal and professional growth for students, and achieving the objectives of a successful University Housing program that connects to the academic mission of CSU. 
This position oversees the on-boarding, training and development program for 15 graduate staff, and nearly 500 paraprofessional positions. Primary responsibilities include: coordination and implementation of the training and development program, and coordinating the on-boarding processes for all paraprofessional positions. The Coordinator will carry out their responsibilities under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Staffing, Selection and Training.


The selected candidate will be well-organized and able to work well under pressure with multiple and consistently changing deadlines. To be successful in the position, the Coordinator must have excellent interpersonal communication, organization, administrative skills and demonstrated experience with taking initiative. In addition, the Coordinator will need a strong ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with multiple constituents including campus offices, students, staff, and faculty within the university community.


In addition, experience working with diverse individuals such as non-traditional aged, religiously diverse, gender, international, people with disabilities, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender, and persons of color is essential to be effective in the Coordinator position.


Job Requirements

Required Job Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education or related field
2 years of full-time experience in Student Affairs and/or Housing
Supervision of various levels of staff (i.e. paraprofessional, graduate, etc.)
Experience with selection and/or training initiatives
Experience working with people from a broad diversity of backgrounds

Preferred Job Qualifications

Experience with analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, group dynamics
Demonstrated ability for problem-solving
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships
Experience with residential communities in college/university housing
