About Virginia Commonwealth University and University Student Commons and Activities

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), a premier urban, public research university in the state, seeks to hire a Coordinator for Student Programming to join the staff of University Student Commons and Activities in the Division of Student Affairs.

Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The Coordinator for Student Programming is responsible for the advising and supervision of the student staff and programmatic activities of the Activities Programming Board (APB) and the Graduate and Professional Student Programming Board (GSPB). This position will lead the students on each board through the programming process by providing leadership development, identifying and assessing needs of students on both the Monroe Park and MCV Campuses, training staff, fostering collaboration with partners internal and external to the University, managing and mitigating risk, and ensuring compliance with Department, Division, and University policy and procedures. The coordinator will approve all marketing material and ensure University compliance of social media posts for both organizations. The program coordinator will oversee the allocation of funds and purchases for each programming board and monitor their budgets throughout the year. This position will supervise two graduate assistants for each programming board. The program coordinator may also be tasked with programming events outside the scope of APB and GSPB, working with the Assistant Director for Student Programming and Campus Engagement on university-wide initiatives including but not limited to Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming, and end of year events.

Reports To: Assistant Director for Student Programming and Campus Engagement of the University Student Commons and Activities.

Job Requirements

Minimum Hiring Standards

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student College Personnel, Counseling, or a related discipline or equivalent training and/or experience
  • At least two (2) years of professional experience advising and/or supervising programming boards at the University level or equivalent
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to create, implement, and evaluate university-wide student centered programs
  • Ability to create organizational goals and reporting
  • Ability to create and manage a budget
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse setting and with diverse populations is required

Preferred Hiring Standards

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student College Personnel preferred
  • Counseling or a related discipline preferred
