General Summary

The Latinx Cultural Center (LCC) provides resources, support services, community engagement and educational experiences to support students’ academic and social success. The LCC Program Coordinator is the primary resource for information, referrals and advocacy to address the needs of Latinx students at DePaul. This position promotes and fosters a campus environment that is inclusive of people from all identities while directly supporting Latinx students. The Center also provides a venue for all students to learn about Latinx culture, heritage, and traditions. The position is within an identity-based center model that acknowledges and affirms the importance of intersectional and holistic student development.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Supports the mission by creating an inclusive environment to support student success.
  • Develops and maintains institutional and non-institutional student referral sources for Latinx students.  
  • Initiates referrals for students to services such as Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Counseling Center, etc.
  • Coordinates, plans and implements cultural and intersectional programs and activities to promote awareness, understanding, and appreciation of a diverse and inclusive campus community. 
  • Oversees the operation of the Latinx Cultural Center space facilitating a safe and supportive environment for students.
  • Supervises graduate and undergraduate student staff and manages the Center’s assigned budget resources.
  • Serves as a collaborative partner with the other Centers to create programs and services to address the intersectional nature of identities.
  • Serves as a liaison to university academic partners such as Latin American and Latino Studies, and works with partners to provide programs, resources and services for students, faculty, and staff. 
  • Serves as a proactive resource for Latinx student organization leaders and advisors.
  • Assesses and reports to university leaders on effectiveness of programs, services and student academic progress and persistence.
  • Serves on university, divisional, and departmental committees as assigned.  
  • Interprets university policy to students, student groups, staff and parents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Success.

Education & Experience

  • Master's degree required in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Latin American and Latino Studies, or related fields.
  • 1-3 years of experience in community development, program management and advising with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of race/ethnicity/class, college access issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues significant to diverse communities and Latinx student experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement educational and informational programs in a diverse cultural environment and to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of one undergraduate student worker.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Manages the Center’s assigned budget resources.

Other Skills & Abilities Required

  • Must possess excellent individual, group, interpersonal and facilitation skills.
  • Must possess effective counseling and intervention skills.
  • Professional record of advocating for marginalized student populations, especially in a university setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, handle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
