Marshall University is seeking a Program Coordinator for the Wellness Center to assist in the planning and implementation of education, prevention, and intervention initiatives directed to address student health, wellness promotion, and risk reduction.
This position reports to the Director of Wellness and Gender Programs. Areas of focus will include the following: substance misuse, mental health, stress management, sexual health, infectious disease and other public health related areas. Program development and implementation is expected. This position will require a flexible schedule with some evening and weekend availability.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Provide assistance in the planning, development, and implementation of programs and initiatives directed at addressing student health and wellness promotion.
• Assist in the coordination of all campus prevention and outreach programs, including Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) prevention and risk reduction activities, i.e. AlcoholEdu and Prescription Drug Education.
• Develop and coordinate screening and brief intervention services for students on campus, i.e. BASICS.
• Assist in the development and coordination of awareness activities and outreach programs addressing student’s sexual health and reduction of infectious disease i.e. student health screenings and seminars.
• Coordinate programs to raise awareness around mental health concerns and implement programs to assist students with stress management and to increase resiliency and coping skills, i.e. mindfulness.
• Work collaboratively with campus entities to increase awareness and support prevention and risk reduction outreach activities related to public health and infectious disease, i.e. flu vaccination clinics, wellness fairs, and health promotion marketing.
• Collaborate with campus partners to assist in development and coordination of outreach activities aimed at increasing student awareness around general nutrition and related eating concerns and disorders.
• Assist the Director in conducting evaluation of programs and services, including the National College Health Assessment and assisting the Director in compiling the biennial AOD campus report. Participate in other related assessment/program evaluation activities on campus and within the community, as applicable.
• Develop and implement group specific training for students and staff, i.e. bystander intervention related to AOD and mental health. Serve as a resource and advise student groups on evidenced based prevention strategies in planning events.
• Collaborate and coordinate with campus, community and national partners to address high risk behavior and prevention initiatives on campus, including opportunities for research.
• Serve as student group advisor for the Healthy Herd and BACCHUS peer education student groups, which will develop and promote health related initiatives on campus.
• Assist the Director in securing external funding for projects and programs (i.e. AOD, Sexual health, suicide prevention, and mindfulness programs).
• Bachelor’s degree in mental health field, higher education, health education, public health or related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication and outstanding interpersonal skills.
• Strong ability to work with and contribute to a team environment.
• Interest in mentoring, developing and supervising students.
• Experience using Microsoft Office programs and social media management platforms.
• Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
