Position Description

The coordinator of communication and engagement serves as the primary contact for parents of undergraduate students at the University of South Carolina. The coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing and assessing events and communications-related programs and services for parents and families, which provide them with resources to support their students’ growth and success at Carolina. Focusing on customer service, the coordinator assists parents and families with questions and concerns and promotes the office as the central resource for families of undergraduate students. This individual is an expert in all things related to content and channel optimization, brand consistency, audience segmentation, analytics and meaningful measurement.

Primary duties include:

  • Coordinate all forms of communication with parents of undergraduate students, including writing and editing print and web publications, social media posts and mobile app content; working with a staff designer as necessary
  • Plan and implement the annual Family Weekend in coordination with the communication and events director (hosting nearly 8,000 participants) and other special events for parents/families
  • Focusing on customer service, manage a 1-800 Parents Assistance Line and parent email account to assist parents with questions and concerns

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material. This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies. In addition, this position requires a variable work schedule. This position will also assist with emergency communication and be expected to participate in various professional development activities as appropriate.
