Position Description

The Department of Recreational Sports is a unit of Student Affairs that is committed to advancing student success. Transformative student learning is advanced through programs, services and facilities, which contribute to health and a culture of wellbeing at Oregon State University. Recreational Sports provides opportunities to enrich student development and enhance transferrable skills through experiences in programs and services, including the student employment program. Oregon State University strives to promote a community where everyone belongs and thrives. 
The Coordinator for Student Initiatives provides managerial, administrative, supervisory and leadership to student initiatives and learning within the department while also being an active participant at the divisional level of the Student Affairs Student Employment Program. This position is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive student development program, including, but not limited to, recruitment and selection, professional development, transformative learning agenda, interns/practicums and recognition while ensuring student success. This position works closely with the Career Development Center. This position also works closely with department Advancement Team and works to positively develop relationships with future and current alumni. 
A personal and professional commitment to providing excellent customer service while creating inclusive environments. 
This position is responsible for making decisions that are ethically sound, including the sustainability of human, environmental and fiscal resources. 
This position supervises classified staff and approximately fifteen student employees. The services provided by the Student Office Associates occur seven days a week and often extend past regular operating hours; including student reception and Recreation Services.


Job Requirements

Minimum/Required Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related work experience.
Or combination thereof.

One year professional experience in corporate business or higher education environment.

Demonstrated experience, knowledge and ability in supervising, advising, training, and evaluating of student employees, patrons, and practicums/interns.

Demonstrated knowledge of student development and student development programs.

Proficient with PC based computer systems and software including Microsoft Office, RecTrac, and other software programs and databases.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent organizational, leadership and decision making skills to prioritize workload and meet assignments while handling multiple tasks and deadlines.

Exceptional problem-solving skills, ability to quickly learn new concepts and methodologies as needed.

Able to work both independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams and cross all levels to drive results.

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to navigate through ambiguity and break down complex problems into simplified and manageable parts.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per OSU Standard 576-056-0000 et seq.

Certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED, Standard First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens/Universal Precautions within 90 days of hire.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications: Master’s Degree in a field appropriate to the work: or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated experience with RecTrac or other complex database systems.

Demonstrated experience, knowledge, and ability to create dynamic, cutting edge programs in student development and orientation including organization, planning, implementing, and evaluation.

Ability to effectively cultivate positive relationships with colleagues on campus and within the business community.

A demonstratable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
