Position Description

Brief Description of Duties 

General duties include the provision of mental health services to university students, assessment and consultation services, clinical supervision of psychology and post-graduate trainees, and mental health education and outreach programming.  The Counselor is an integral team member in the Counseling & Wellness Center.  In addition to his/her work providing counseling services to UDC students, the Counselor serves as a professional resource providing consultation and outreach to the University community, as well as clinical supervision to trainees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides professional mental health services for UDC students, including initial assessment, counseling (individual and group), disposition planning and referral support, and crisis intervention and management
  • Complete necessary and required clinical and administrative paperwork in a timely manner and consistent with office expectations and professional standards
  • Consults with faculty and staff on issues relevant to student mental health concerns, behavior, and educational performance
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements student programming and outreach on a broad range of psychological and mental health issues
  • Provides clinical supervision and training to non-licensed trainees
  • Provides clinical case management services as needed or assigned
  • Participates in administrative and clinical meetings
  • Develops, implement, and analyzes program assessments
  • Participates actively and constructively in institutional committees and partnerships related to student development, mental health, retention, and outreach
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology or Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Social Work from an accredited program
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Licensed Psychologist or Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the District of Columbia is strongly preferred 
  • License eligible as Psychologist or LICSW in DC within 6 months of hire may be considered
