Position Description

Position Overview

The area of Civic Engagement and Social Justice is part of an extremely dynamic Office of Student Involvement and Leadership.

In alignment with the educational mission of Butler University, and the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, in partnership with students, strives to create an environment that encourages educational and social growth. By intentionally engaging students in interactive and diverse opportunities, the office seeks to develop an on-going commitment to leadership, service and learning enhances our students’ overall collegiate experience.

 

The Director of Civic Engagement and Social Justice, as part of the collaborative team of Student Involvement and Leadership, helps coordinate and improve the programs and services of the office.  Their primary objectives are to promote student learning and development by focusing on, engagement, service, and involvement through hands-on experiences.  The staff creates an environment that contributes to the sense of community on campus, within student organizations and beyond.

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee and coordinate community engagement efforts including:
Supervision of an Assistant Director
Advise Student Government Association’s Diversity and Inclusion Board (DIB)
Collaborate with academic partners including Center for Citizenship and Community and Social Justice and Diversity core to integrate co-curricular and academic learning
Oversee budgets for area
Coordination and implementation of co-curricular assessment for student leaders, student organizations, and office programs

Additional Responsibilities:

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

Master's degree in College Student Personnel or related field required
Minimum of 4 years of experience in areas of civic engagement and/or social justice within the field of higher education
Demonstrated commitment to the growth and development of students
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
Experience in advising individuals and groups
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills; both written and oral
Command of technology including social media and other online sources
Experience in special events planning; research and developing policies, procedures and guidelines
