Job Requirements

The Office of the First-Year Experience is seeking a motivated, creative, conscientious and organized individual to serve as the Director for the First-Year Experience. The First-Year Experience department provides resources and programming for students in their first year at Campbell University, including the first-year seminar (CUFS 100). The FYE office is a department within Student Life and works collaboratively and closely with academic units and undergraduate faculty. The Director for the First-Year Experience will report to the Assistant Vice President of Student Success.

The ideal candidate exercises good judgment in a variety of situations, possesses strong written and verbal communication, and has the ability to balance multiple priorities. The Director for the First-Year Experience has the ability to work independently on projects as well as in a team environment. 

  • Manage all aspects of the Campbell University First-Year Seminar (CUFS 100) and academic success seminar (SLIF 101) including but not limited to: development of course materials and resources; instructor recruitment, training and development; management of classroom management software (Blackboard).
  • Recruit, select, train, and supervise a variety of peer educators including first-year seminar peer mentors, and orientation leaders.
  • Partner with the Office of Admissions to develop and manage programming of New Student Orientation focused on Student Life departments and resources.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment efforts for the CUFS 100 and SLIF 101 courses and other FYE initiatives.
  • Coordinate programming aimed at aiding first-year students including but not limited to: Camel 101 extended orientation program; new student welcome events each semester; campus traditions; monthly e-newsletter; bi-weekly First-Year Forum programs; end of the year celebrations.
  • Direct the office’s communication efforts through social media platforms as well as print and digital resources.
  • Work with the Assistant Vice President for Student Success and Vice President for Student Life to develop and support programming for parents and families.
  • Represent the FYE office to multiple constituents including prospective students and families, current students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Represent Student Life on a variety of University committees including but not limited to Retention Committee; Student Life Committee and University Curriculum Committee.
