Xavier University is seeking qualified candidates to serve as the Director of Counseling Services.
The Director is responsible for the delivery of clinical services, outreach and consultation services to meet the psychological and behavioral needs of Xavier students. This senior-level administrator leads a team of professional clinicians and trained graduate interns. The Director is a practicing mental health clinician, providing counseling, crisis intervention, and clinical supervision, outreach and consultation services to the university community to support student learning and wellbeing in the Jesuit Catholic tradition.
The Director’s principal responsibilities:
Supervise Counseling Services operations, delivery of clinical services, and the work of clinical counselors, psychologists, counseling interns, and other trainees. Develop and implement appropriate crisis response mechanisms and communicates protocol to campus stakeholders including Xavier University Police Department, Psychological Services Center, Residence Life and the Dean of Students office. Collaborate with faculty of Xavier’s Department of Clinical Counseling with respect to training, licensing, and placement of clinical counseling trainees in Counseling Services. Collaborate with TriHealth staff leading student health services. Serve on the Student Affairs Departmental Leaders Team and the Xavier Action and Care Team. Ensure that counseling services are provided according to accrediting agencies requirements, and federal and state laws. Maintain appropriate licensure and monitor the licensure of all Counseling Services clinical staff.
Provide counseling and psychotherapy to students in individual and group formats; engage in triage, diagnostic interviewing, and development and implementation of treatment plans. Provide crisis intervention and emergency mental health services for students on campus, and through after hours on-call system.
Conduct outreach services to the University community to disseminate information about wellness and mental health issues and their treatment. Serve as a key Student Affairs liaison regarding the implementation of policies and procedures regarding mental health issues on campus.
Plan and manage Counseling Services departmental budget, including staffing, programming and professional development expenses. Provide oversight of the implementation, maintenance and daily utilization of Counseling Services electronic medical record system.
