The University of Georgia invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Greek Life, a key campus leader in efforts to build community for students and foster student engagement.
The Director provides vision, strategic leadership, and overall supervision for the Greek Life Office in support of the University’s academic mission and the strategic priorities of Student Affairs and UGA. The Director also serves as a visible resource for the university community by enhancing the understanding of and appreciation for membership in all fraternities and sororities and strengthening the relationships between those organizations.
As a unit within the Division of Student Affairs, the Greek Life Office seeks to enhance the learning environment for members of the University of Georgia community by inspiring students to engage meaningfully, grow intellectually, and build character. Greek life is an established tradition at the University of Georgia dating back more than 150 years with more than 60 national Greek-letter organizations currently chartered. For this role, UGA Student Affairs seeks a thoughtful, energetic, and collaborative partner who can artfully and effectively bring together students, faculty, staff, senior administrators, alumni, chapter advisors, headquarters staff, and other stakeholders to best meet the identified needs of students.
The Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and serves as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team. UGA Student Affairs comprises 18 campus departments that inspire students to engage meaningfully, grow intellectually, and build character so they will create thriving communities. The Director is responsible for providing educational, cultural, and leadership development programs, services, and resources as well as advising 60-plus registered fraternity and sorority chapters, their more than 7,000 members, and their respective umbrella groups and auxiliaries (Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and Panhellenic Council). The Director is responsible for the operational management and supervision of the Greek Life Office and staff which consists of three Assistant Directors, one Coordinator, one Administrative Associate, and two Graduate Assistants. The Greek Life Office also coordinates the Student Food Pantry and advises UGAMiracle (student organization).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
2. Understanding of the role of Greek Life at a large, complex institution.
3. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment while maintaining effective working relations with members of the University community.
4. Understanding of student development concepts and the ability to utilize them in student organization matters.
5. Demonstrating discretionary skills, ability to prioritize, and professional judgment.
6. Proven competence in responding to sensitive and serious crisis situations.
7. Knowledge of higher education law preferred.
8. Must possess computer knowledge and skills and be able to utilize word processing, email, internet, and calendar and database programs.
9. Ability to manage detailed work and balance time demands well.
10. Willingness to work some nights and weekend hours.
Education and Experience
1. Master’s Degree in higher education, college student affairs, or related field required. Completion of a terminal degree (i.e. J.D., Ph.D., Ed.D.) is preferred.
2. Minimum of five (5) years full-time college student affairs or related experience.
3. Minimum of five (5) years experience working in the area of fraternity and sorority life or related area.
4. Minimum of five (5) years experience working with a diverse student population preferred.
5. Minimum of five (5) years experience with conflict resolution/mediation preferred.
