Position Description

The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment at the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University invites applications for the full-time, benefit-eligible position of Director, Office of Institutional Research and Assessment. The Director reports to the Provost and supports college/university planning at all levels. This position provides leadership and oversight of accreditation, institutional research, and programmatic assessment, by working collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and academic committees/groups to promote institutional effectiveness and student success.

The College of Saint Benedict (CSB), a liberal arts college for women, and Saint John's University (SJU), a liberal arts college for men, are located in the central lakes area of Minnesota, surrounded by more than 3,000 acres of pristine forests, prairies and lakes. The campuses are minutes away from St. Cloud, an increasingly diverse regional center with a population of over 100,000, and 70 miles from Minneapolis and St. Paul. Some CSB/SJU staff choose to reside locally, while others commute from the Twin Cities. Responsibilities:

Institutional Research:

  • Manage collection, analysis, reporting, and presentation of quantitative and non-quantitative information, such as that required of IPEDS, U.S. News, and College Finder, to state, federal, and regional regulators and accreditors, which demonstrate the attainment of the College's strategic directions.
  • Gather, analyze, report, and present statistical data on student success including enrollment statistics and demographics, retention and graduation rates, transfer rates, job placement rates, and satisfaction surveys administered to students, alumni, and employers.
  • Provide institutional expertise on survey design, execution, analysis, and presentation of results.
  • Serve as primary liaison with Information Technology Services for building the CSB/SJU data infrastructure.
  • Supervise the Student Success Systems Administrator assuring best practices and providing research technical expertise to advance the effective use of data in institutional decision-making.

Assessment:

  • Collaborate with the academic dean, dean of the faculty, co-academic, co-curricular, and faculty governance to advance the quality and effectiveness of policies, reports, and follow up related to assessment and program review.
  • Provide expertise regarding technical aspects of assessment including student evaluations, design of databases, data collection, and analysis of data.
  • Provide oversight and support to assistant director (assessment focus) in the planning, collection, and evaluation of data used for assessment and program review across all academic disciplines and within the general education curriculum.

Student Success/Retention:

  • Provide direction and oversight to the Student Success Systems Administrator in  the planning, collection, and evaluation of data used to improve student retention and support use of early alert system (Starfish).

Job Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. mathematics, statistics, informatics, research, social science, economics, business)
  • In depth knowledge of the role of data-informed decision-making in relation to institutional priorities
  • Advanced analytic skills in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods research methodologies, including the use of statistical software and tools appropriate to institutional research
  • Experience with compliance reporting and accreditation
  • Strong oral and written communication to prepare and communicate quality reports
  • Effective interpersonal relations and collaboration skills

Preferred:

  • Masters degree in a related field
  • Leadership experience in higher education, including strategic planning and tactical implementation of institutional initiatives
  • Supervisory experience
  • Advanced knowledge of student information systems
