The Office of Multicultural Affairs is offering an exciting career opportunity as Director of Multicultural Affairs. We are looking for a people-centered and innovative professional to join us in leading student success efforts for diverse student populations. The Director of Multicultural Affairs provides support to domestic minority students and GLBTQ+ students; multicultural programming and cultural awareness training for the university; assists with the recruitment and retention of domestic minority and GLBTQ+ students; and advises cultural student organizations. Additionally, the position provides leadership and oversight to student disability services, providing accommodations to students with documented disabilities at the University to promote student success. The National Student Exchange program is operated under the leadership of the position, facilitating student study experiences by housing students at SDSU or coordinating SDSU students studying at another institution in the US for a specified time period. This is a 12 month, full-time, benefit-eligible position. This position is supervised by the Assistand Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students.
SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. Women, minorities, veterans, and people with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.
Master’s Degree in any field plus related experience or Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Sociology, Education or a closely related field completed by first day of employment.
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience serving diverse student populations.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs.
Valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, and willingness to travel.
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategies to improve student success of underserved populations.
Three (3) years previous supervisory experience.
Demonstrated experience in program assessment.
Development of collaborative partnerships for programming and services both internal and external to the organization.
Ability to organize and prioritize projects and initiatives in order to maximize resources and create efficiencies.
Strong commitment to staff development and customer service.
