Position Description

The Director of the Office of New Student and Family Transitions will be a visionary leader who will create orientation, transition, and retention programming for new students and their families to increase persistence and graduation from Augusta University. The Director will provide leadership and direction for a dedicated staff of student development professionals. In addition to providing strategic guidance to the staff, the Director will optimize our newly created Parent and Family Association and its accompanying programming. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to provide innovative solutions to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse student population.

The Director of New Student and Family Transitions will supervise all office personnel to ensure efficient and effective administration of the department; develop and advise the Augusta University Parent and Family Association, including all accompanying programming (on and off-campus); provide strategic leadership and supervision to the Office of New Student & Family Transitions, including budget management; and serve as an active member of the Enrollment Management Council, Student Success Advisory Committee, and other teams to meet strategic enrollment goals for the University.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

The applicant must:

  • Have a Master’s degree in college student personnel or a related field
  • Have at least three years of experience in parent programming, new student orientation/transition, leadership training, and/or general programming
  • Be able to provide leadership to a new office
  • Have experience with databases, spreadsheets, and operating systems
  • Be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Have experience with a university records program (e.g. Banner)
  • Possess budgeting and strategic planning skills
  • Know emerging trends in higher education, including the needs of students in their first year of college
  • Understand new student development, retention and transition models
  • Be committed to the development of a student-centered, residential campus environment through student-centered, collaborative teamwork across academic, enrollment, and student affairs units
  • Understand diversity and inclusiveness and how to communicate and action these values
  • Have strong initiative, independent judgment, computer competency, communication skills, and organizational skills
  • Be able to respond to sensitive inquiries
  • Have demonstrated project management skills
  • Have demonstrated team experience
  • Exhibit a professional code of ethics
  • Be punctual to all job duties
  • Have outstanding judgement and the ability to work autonomously

Ideally, the applicant will also:

  • Have experience building collaborative relationships with campus partners
  • Have supervisory experience
  • Possess strategic planning and budget experience
  • Be a member of NODA and either ACPA or NASPA
