Position Description

Friends University is seeking to fill the Director of New Student Transitions position in Wichita, KS. The Director will lead the design, implementation assessment of CBASE New Student Transition programs.  Select and monitor First Year Mentors.  Collaborate with faculty, staff and athletic coaches to ensure the academic progress and success of student athletes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with Institutional Research, athletic coaches and other appropriate entities for the collection of data for early alert purposes.  Develop intervention and success strategies with coaches, faculty, staff and students based on early alert data and other research-based best practices programs.  Provide regular reports to coaches, athletic director, Assistant Dean of CBASE, Retention committee and University President on success of strategies and re-invention of strategies as needed.

Plan, facilitate and implement active and engaging enrollment days and new student orientation programs for CBASE.  Communicate with students and families via phone, email, mail and other communication venues.  Assist in the planning of transitional programs with Campus Life.  Assess programs for further refinement.

Serve as the primary advisor for First Year Mentors.  Execute the application, selection and training process.  Assist students with programming efforts and teach students strategies to support successful transition of new students to Friends University and to be successful leaders.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree required.

Two years’ experience in a higher education campus orientation and academic success related environment.

Strong verbal, public presentation, and written communication skills required. Must be an energetic, collaborative, student centered professional who enjoys working with students, families, and colleagues. Dedicated to creating opportunities that foster student engagement, development, and learning.

The position requires analytical ability, judgement and ingenuity.  The individual must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.  Ability to understand a variety of computer-based programs in order to track data and develop reports.
