Position Description

The Director of Strategic Planning and Assessment is responsible for coordinating strategic planning, assessment, and research activities within the division of Student Affairs. The Director of Strategic Planning and Assessment is expected to create a culture of excellence utilizing assessment effective practices; serve as champion of assessment efforts within the division; seek collaboration throughout the University in relation to assessment of the student experience; provide direction and leadership reflective of innovation within assessment practices; serve as divisional representative on University assessment initiatives; provide information and support for university reaccreditation efforts, and serve on the Student Affairs leadership team.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides leadership, oversight, and direction for assessment efforts within the Division of Student Affairs that measures satisfaction; student learning outcomes; and programs and services that positively impact student success and retention.
  2. Oversee all division strategic planning and annual reporting processes.
  3. Serve as a resource to division staff regarding assessment and research practices and activities.
  4. Collect and analyze data for use in making decisions regarding student affairs programs and services, policy making, and resource allocations.
  5. Mine University data to inform practices within the Division of Student Affairs
  6. Create a formal assessment plan for the Division of Student Affairs Strategic Plan, inclusive of all departments, and operationalize its implementation.
  7. Coordinate annual Student Affairs projects including Annual Report, Student Learning Outcomes, Strategic Plan, Strategic Plan Scorecard, Program Review Schedule, and Annual Accomplishments/Metrics.
  8. Identify external funding sources and coordinate the preparation and submission of grant applications.
  9. Coordinate, lead, and manage the Student Affairs Assessment Council.
  10. Create central repository for all divisional and departmental assessment materials.
  11. Serve as divisional representative on University assessment initiatives and provide information and support for university accreditation efforts.
  12. Serve as divisional liaison with University Office of Institutional Research.
  13. Serve as a member of Division of Student Affairs leadership team and assist with other program initiatives as needed.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in Higher Education, Public Administration, Management, College Student Personnel, Educational Research, Statistics or related field and seven years of experience working in related area. Preference given to institutional research, planning, assessment, and predictive analytics in a college or university setting.

  1. Takes initiative - Ability to take the first steps to identify and address existing and potential obstacles, issues, and opportunities.
  2. High level of commitment to professionalism and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to collect and compile data using best practices of quantitative and qualitative approaches.
  4. Knowledge of data analysis technologies and methodology.
  5. Knowledge of computer applications and research methods.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
  7. Ability to foster a collaborative work environment, good judgment, and the ability to promote high ethical standards.
  8. Ability to plan and implement programs and activities.
  9. Experience working on a college campus.
