Position Description

The Director of Student Involvement is responsible for the overall strategic vision and leadership of a comprehensive student club and organization program.  In addition, the Director will oversee the planning, promoting, and management of a broad spectrum of campus activities and programs, which will cultivate a vibrant/active social life and help nurture student development and community building at Purdue University. 

The Director of Student Involvement reports to the Senior Director of the Purdue Memorial Union at Purdue University, serving as an executive member of a campus team that seeks to enrich the quality of life on campus and to build community amongst the diverse members of the university family—students, staff, alumni, and guests—by inviting them to participate in formal programs and informal opportunities to gather, study, work, develop, and socialize.  This group looks to support the public service aspect of Purdue’s Land Grant mission by providing quality facilities, programs, and services.

The Director of Student Involvement is responsible for the supervision of eleven professional staff, two graduate assistants, and practicum students, student interns, and student staff, along with budget development and management, programs, activities, operations, procedures, and evaluation/assessment within the following areas: 

Student Organizations Management (970+ student clubs and organizations; registration, budgets, programming, risk management, conflict resolution, communication, etc.);
Legacy Student Organizations (advising, donor development, programming, etc.); and
Purdue Student Union Board (campus programming organization).


Job Requirements

Required:

Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, or related field
Six (6) years of experience in strategic planning, advising, and student programming and governance with a minimum of two (2) years in budgeting and financial management and supervision 

Preferred:

Experience working directly with people from diverse racial,ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds 
Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team, including cross-functional, interdisciplinary, and cross-campus work teams
The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellence in organization, problem-solving, translating big-picture ideas into detail-oriented action
