About the Position

Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Student Life beginning Fall 2019. The Director is responsible for developing, managing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive student life program supporting the success of all AUM College students; ensuring all activities, programs and outcomes are compliant with federal and state regulations governing Title IX and other higher education regulations; overseeing and coordinating student clubs, organizations, co-curricular programing and student life activities; and enforcing the Student Code of Conduct. The Director  supervises the Coordinator of Intramural & Club Sports, Senior Program Associate for Student Conduct, Coordinator of Student Experience and Transitions, Assistant Director of Student Involvement and Leadership, and an Administrative Assistant.


Student Support and Conduct

  • Coordinate awareness, enforcement and implementation of the Student Code of Conduct
  • Investigate reports of student misconduct and help conduct administrative meetings to adjudicate conduct matters
  • Assist the Dean in selecting, training and facilitating faculty and staff to serve on hearing boards
  • Analyze and respond to student behavior incidents and trends; perform needs assessments to devise intervention and program strategies and direct efforts to foster a safe and academically supportive College environment
  • Assist with maintaining appropriate records
  • Monitor best practices related to behavioral intervention teams nationwide and implement on the AUM campus
  • Review incoming incident reports, mail, and correspondence related to student behavioral standards and student code of conduct; maintain documentation on student incidents
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal laws, including Title IX and Clery Act requirements
  • Continuously research and refresh departmental and/or institutional policies and procedures to maintain compliance with state and federal regulatory changes
  • Report national and institutional trends related to student conduct to the Dean to ensure the College responds to student issues in a proactive manner
  • Monitor compliance with conduct sanctions and conduct follow-up meetings
  • Generate regular reports on student conduct issues including semester and annual conduct reports, identifying trends and patterns of behavior, to inform prevention programming
  • Oversee investigations into alleged violations of the Code of Conduct
  • Oversee the training of all institutional staff and faculty on conduct-related matters, including Residence Life student staff

Student Engagement

  • Recruit student leaders and volunteers to facilitate the advancement of a campus life program with an emphasis on co-curricular programming
  • Oversee the annual offering of a full complement of programming for the student population
  • Oversee New Student Orientation, Weeks of Welcome and other campus-wide activities with Student Life staff
  • Oversee the annual allocation of student development funds to clubs and organizations in a manner that ensures fiscal responsibility
  • Recruit and train University employees to serve as advisors to student organizations and clubs
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of Warhawk Alley
  • Serve as primary advisor for Campus Activities Board and Student Government Association
  • Serve as liaison with Marketing and Communication to coordinate communication with students to include newsletters, surveys, event calendars, orientation dates, safety information and general campus updates via e-mail and direct mail


  • Provide leadership for the management of staff in the Student Life department to include hiring, supervision, professional development, performance appraisal, programming, and scheduling
  • Establish annual goals and ensure student life programs are consistent with institutional priorities and lead to a full complement of student life and student engagement activities
  • Develop, propose, and monitor the annual Student Life budgets and ensure that expenditures are allocated to enhance the level of services provided to students
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate operational systems and procedures to implement established student conduct policies and recommend changes as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, preferably with coursework in student development and/or human relations
  • At least 10 years of experience in student life, leadership training, or student conduct administration. Professional experiences should reflect an understanding of the value and impact of student services and engagement as well as student behavior and conduct

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of student engagement and conduct within a community college system
  • Certification in Title IX administration
  • Teaching/training experience
