Position Description

Leads programs and services centered on Asian/Asian American culture and intercultural initiatives offered to students, faculty, staff, and members of the community through the Multicultural Center;

Creates an environment that promotes inclusion, celebrates diversity and raises cultural awareness; advocates for the development of all students and directs, supports, and interprets policies and problem solving assistance for students and student organizations; manages collaborative intercultural and cultural programs and activities that emphasize and promote understanding and awareness, the development of pride, coalition building, prejudice reduction and the intersection of commonality, privilege and oppression;

Manages collaborative cultural programs and services that emphasize integration of the university’s academic plan; manages and maintains cooperative relationships with student leaders/organizations, campus departments, community partners and members, emerging communities, external agencies and organizations;

Leads and/or serves on internal and/or external committees; manages undergraduate students; provides support for the professional development of student staff; administers programming budget and controls expenditures; solicits funds from outside sponsors; leads, schedules, participates and/or facilitates workshops, meetings and conferences.


Job Requirements

Required: Master’s degree in student development, higher education, cultural studies or related field or equivalent combination of education and considerable experience; knowledge of, and experience working with, Asian/Asian American student issues and culture; presentation and facilitation skills; and professional program planning experience.

Desired: Experience working on teams; considerable experience planning, implementing and managing cultural and cross cultural programs; familiarity with current literature on race, class, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability and human development theory as they relate to young adults; knowledge of learning and/or student development theory; administrative experience.
