Position Description

The Leadership Programs Coordinator is an integral position to develop and implement a wide range of services to students at Fort Lewis College, including 70 student organizations in a diverse community. In conjunction with the entire Leadership Center team, the Leadership Programs Coordinator provides direct support for New Student and Family Orientation, coordinates and oversees the LEAD program and other leadership skills workshops, delivers workshops and programs centered around CliftonStrengths and career-readiness skills, cultivates and guides student organizations, and serves as a mentor to students and student organizations as required. Among other qualities, the ideal candidate has experience with and understands the importance of co-curricular experiences and how they impact the overall success of college students.

​Major Responsibilities

  • Lead CliftonStrengths and career-readiness initiatives for curricular and co-curricular experiences
  • Coordinate, deliver, and update LEAD program curriculum and other leadership development programs and activities, particularly as it relates to the college’s Strategic Plan
  • In conjunction with entire Leadership Center team, cultivate and guide student organizations and serve as formal and informal adviser to students and student organizations as required
  • Hire, train, inspire, and supervise up to 60 students who serve as Orientation Leaders each fall term and four in the spring term
  • Oversee and coordinate the design and launch of Pre-Campus Academy, a series of supplemental online modules for incoming and transfer students to enhance the overall transition experience
  • Oversee assessment of leadership programs to determine overall effectiveness and opportunities for improvement
  • Connect leadership programming with student leadership development theories and Fort Lewis College’s strategic plan
  • Foster a welcoming environment of inclusion for all students, staff and faculty and other Fort Lewis College stakeholders and develop positive working relationships with colleagues
  • Participate in ongoing personal and professional development and departmental and institutional programs to increase skills, awareness, and knowledge of multicultural and leadership competencies
  • Attend evening and weekend events as required, including Commencement and New Student & Family Orientation activities
  • Meet regularly with the director, assistant director, and Union Programming Coordinator in order to establish and pursue strategic initiatives established for the Center
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

​Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree along with two professional years of relevant college experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CliftonStrengths or other instrument (MBTI, DiSC, etc)
  • Proven ability to work with diverse and multicultural populations
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, suitable for all levels of the institution
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
  • Demonstrated knowledge of college systems and student organizations and activities within a framework revolving around a commitment to diversity and multicultural issues
  • Proven experience with planning, directing, and coordinating programs and activities, including working within budgetary constraints
  • Strong commitment to organizational success, including a focus on continuous quality and process improvement including assessment methods
  • Strong knowledge and comfort with computers and other office technology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Higher Ed, Educational Leadership, or related discipline
  • Certified and/or licensed in leadership or personality instruments such as CliftonStrengths, DiSC, MBTI, etc.
  • Experience conducting assessment and evaluation of student learning and program effectiveness.
  • Experience with software platforms such as Canvas, CampusVibe, and various social media platforms.
  • Bilingual – Spanish and/or tribal languages
