Position Description

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Programs and Recreation, the Program Advisor will co-advise the Purdue Student Union Board (PSUB) student volunteers in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating programming developed by students and staff.  Supervise major campus events, including safety and security, crowd control and compliance with contractual obligations and University policies.  Assist and provide student volunteers with training in leadership development, programming skills, policy development, budget development and marketing. Serves as on-site event management and provide supervision of student volunteers, while representing the Union and the Programs and Recreation Office administratively. Cultivate and manage University-community partnerships, faculty partnerships and alumni networks that enrich campus programming. Liaison with other campus leadership educators and provide assistance and collaboration where appropriate.  Serve on campus-wide committee’s representing Student Life and Student Academic Affairs. Collaborate with other students, staff and departments to enhance the quality of student life of the Purdue campus. 


Job Requirements

Required:

Bachelor's degree
Two years of experience in in a college union or student activities/development program
Ability to supervise volunteers and work with diverse student populations
Clear understanding of student development theories, co-curricular development, learning outcomes and ability to collaborate
Ability to relate well to students, develop rapport, trust and work within a shared decision-making model with the students  
Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds and teamwork in daily work activity

 

Preferred:

Master's degree
Supervisory experience
Knowledge of University policy and procedures

 

Additional Information:

This position requires the ability to work evening and weekend hours
Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization this position. 
This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
A Background Check will be required for employment in this position.
FLSA:  Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime).
Retirement Eligibility:  Defined Contribution Waiting Period.
